Hence the stakes can be high for a simple single component failure. * The more recent Mac laptops have memory and SSD's permanently soldered onto circuit boards, which makes a "repair" of something like a failed memory chip or a failed hard drive very expensive, in some cases almost as expensive as the price of a new computer. * Laptops, if carried around, are more prone to being banged up or dropped. Thermal issues can be a frequent cause of hardware failures and are more common in laptops (as well as in iMacs) due to the very compact layout. * Very compact form factor for these laptops, means that heat management is critical.
